The exhibition “Barcode: the intellectual work space” presented at Spazio FMG for Architecture from November 4th to December 3rd 2010 is dedicated to the complex of the three Rizzoli buildings in Milan.
Third appointment of the ‘Milan Work in Progress’ cycle dedicated to the great works that have been recently completed or being built in the Lombard capital, the exhibition presents the Via Rizzoli complex, architecturally renovated starting from a matrix theme: the barcode or bar code, declined in original ways in each of the three buildings. The genesis of the sector is reconstructed through the natural evolution of the design theme, the composition of the facade of building C which is declined with different metric methods in the other buildings. In the design and perceptive variations of the bar code – which from a design idea becomes the matrix of the individual interventions – the history of the progressive relationships between professionals, promoters, users is traced but also the evolution and transformation of the architectural languages of three studies. The theme is generated from two themes, on the one hand an imaginary building-library that transforms the coasts of books into a graphic sign, on the other it is inspired by the double nature of the book intended both as a commercial product, and therefore equipped with a code to bars, that cultural container of thoughts.
