Unione 0 introduces itself to the community
Gianandrea Barreca spoke on Wednesday 29 June 2022 at 6 pm at the Spazio Mil in Sesto San Giovanni at the first public event for the presentation of Unione 0, the first building sector of the MilanoSesto project, in which Barreca & La Varra is designing the two buildings with special agreements for the Cluster 5.
It was the MIL space, in Sesto San Giovanni, that hosted the event promoted by Hines, Cale Street, Prelios and Milanosesto, designed and dedicated to the community and to all those who want to get to know Unione 0 more closely. This is the first provate lot that will be carried out in MilanoSesto, the largest urban regeneration project in Italy and among the main ones at European level.
Unione 0, the protagonist of the story, will be developed thanks to the investment made at the beginning of the year by Hines, an international player active in real estate, together with Cale Street, a real estate investment company supported by the Kuwait Investment Office, the London office of Kuwait Investment Authority and the first sovereign fund in the world, established in 1953 through the contribution of the lot to the newly established real estate fund “Unione 0” managed by Prelios SGR by Milanosesto S.p.A.
The mayor of Sesto San Giovanni, Roberto Di Stefano, and the representatives of the three main promoters of MilanoSesto, present at the event, commented with satisfaction on the spirit that guided the conception of the event. Mario Abbadessa, senior managing director & country head of Hines Italy commented: “Unione 0 and the entire MilanoSesto project, in which it is part, arise from the desire to create a place for the community, a broad and inclusive project that also responds to needs of those who already live in Sesto San Giovanni. At Hines we consider a project to be successful only if it is sustainable not only from an environmental and economic point of view, but above all from a social point of view. With the support and trust of Cale Street, our investor in the development of Unione 0, we therefore try to improve our listening to citizens, schools, local associations, but also to traders and other operators present in the areas where we are located, as it is from this comparison that we really understand what are the current and future needs of the generations who inhabit and will inhabit the area. This is what we are working on, hoping to involve more and more voices and different ambitions as we set out to do with this event”.
Luigi Aiello, general manager corporate & business development of the Prelios Group, added: “Introducing Unione 0 to the community was a source of double satisfaction for me. Firstly, because we are concretely promoting our interpretation of a concept of living: modern, sustainable, accessible and built around the needs of the individual. And, no less important, because MilanoSesto is taking place in a tangible way, an ambitious project, initially considered a problem, but which today is a strong initiative and which is based primarily on the creation of value for the entire community. This project is a further demonstration of how the courage, cohesion and professionalism of operators, such as Prelios, Hines and Intesa Sanpaolo, as well as a long-term vision supported by the institutions, are the key to achieving great goals”.
“Being able to present the first sector of MilanoSesto to the Sesto San Giovanni community is a moment of pride for all of us who have been working on the project, with dedication and conviction, for years now. In fact, alongside partners such as Hines and Prelios, we have finally been able to give tangible proof of the path we have taken and the steps that, in the coming years, will make Unione 0 and MilanoSesto a place capable of transforming the history of the former Falck areas into a real opportunity for the future, also enhancing its very important historical heritage “, declared Luciano Carbone, CEO of Milanosesto S.p.A.
The story of Unione 0 also included an informal presentation that involved some of the many professionals who have been collaborating for several months for the construction of the first sector of MilanoSesto. A round table was, in fact, designed to get to know the project from the point of view of the architects who were committed, at first, to translating into drawings what they imagined for the new district and then, step by step, to follow its actual realization with the start of works expected by the end of the year. These are Park Associati, which will take care of the student residence with about 700 beds, the architecture and interior design studio ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel involved in the design of the executive spaces and a hotel, Barreca & La Varra which will design the residences in construction agreement and Scandurra Studio Architettura which will take care of the free residences, as well as LAND which has been entrusted with the construction of the first portion of the park, equal to 13 hectares on a total of 45 hectares. The professionals of the studios alternated in the presentation with their visions of the project, the connections conceived between the various buildings and between these and the existing spaces, in which the concept of public-private osmosis will play a central role, as well as the the re-naturalization process of the area will be a cornerstone of Unione 0 and of the project as a whole.
Finally, it was Davide Rampello, past president of the Milan Triennale, university professor and artistic director of the Rampello & Partners Creative Studio who tackled another crucial theme of Unione 0 and MilanoSesto: the fulcrum from which the project develops are people and their needs, and the intention to bring together an open, inclusive, and integrated community, in line with the interests of future generations. therefore, the relationship with the existing community and the first actions planned to restore centrality to the people who will live in the new area were discussed, as well as the initiatives already activated with local associations that safeguard the heritage and history of the place. A dialogue on the importance of the connection between people and the enhancement of their stories, as well as raising awareness of the importance of intergenerational relationships. This intervention created the opportunity to reveal another preview reserved for all the guests present: this is the documentary “Vita Nuda”, dedicated to the Sesto memory collected in the field by Rampello, which will be presented in August at the Rimini Meeting 2022 which will also see the presence of MilanoSesto.
