Barreca & La Varra among the designers of MilanoSesto in the former Falck areas in Sesto San Giovanni
Barreca & La Varra will design the affordable housing building of “Unione Zero”, the first private development lot of the largest urban regeneration project in Italy.
The MilanoSesto project is the result of the synergy between the companies Milanosesto S.p.A., owner of the areas; Hines, strategic advisor of the entire project and development manager; and Prelios Group, project manager of the initiative.
Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, Park Associati and Scandurra Studio Architettura will be in charge of the design of the remaining buildings of the lot, with a total built surface of about 250,000 square meters – including above-ground and underground spaces – working on the design scheme signed by Foster + Partners architecture firm, ensuring consistency, philosophy and international vision. The start of the first phase of construction of the “Zero Union” lot is scheduled for the second half of 2021 and will have a progressive development.
“For us this is a further opportunity to decline a design reasoning on the residence and the new housing demands that are confusingly emerging and that, put in system, will produce a new domestic landscape that will characterize, in our opinion, the coming years and the Milan of the twenty-first century. The home of the future will be a flexible, changeable device, whose relationship with the outside world will be characterized by a complex and blurred boundary between private and public space,” said Gianandrea Barreca and Giovanni La Varra.
