5SQUARE wins ULI Europe Awards for Excellence 2025
The social housing project in Via Antegnati in Milan, completed in 2022 for Redo SGR, is the first Italian project to receive this recognition. The award ceremony took place in Paris at the end of November 2025.
“The exceptional nature of this project lies in the fact that a building designed to house offices—in a city with thousands of cubic meters of abandoned office space—can be given a second life. The task of urban regeneration architecture today is to take responsibility for the mistakes of the past, correcting, remedying, adapting, and shaping new domestic landscapes.”
Gianandrea Barreca and Giovanni La Varra thus reflect on the prestigious award given to the regeneration project that saw the firm engaged from 2017 to 2022, the year of its inauguration.
Jurors Simone Santi – Director & Founder, VeO – Jörn Walter – HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) and former Chief Planning Director, City of Hamburg – and Sebastien Chemouny – General Manager, Ofi Invest Real Estate SAS – visited the project in September 2025, led by the team from Redo sgr, Fondazione Housing Sociale, and with Giovanni La Varra and Eleonora D’Agostino.
