Open office 01: a hybrid of open workspaces, diffused rooms and collective environments. Work moves in space.

An environment, a workplace, to be efficient must not give waste to its organization, it must be rational and its spatial organization immediately understandable.

For these reasons, in the recovery of the Piazza Piccapietra building in Genoa for the insurance company RSA, we have chosen not to privilege a completely open space structure nor a completely subdivided into a sequence of divided environments. Routes, work spaces, meeting rooms, service, recreational and socialization spaces must be defined but at the same time they must be integrated together, within a single “articulated open space”. A “work and representation space” that makes the community of employees feel part of the company project, as well as reassuring and at the same time being welcoming to customers, consultants and external visitors. We have transformed some functional elements into devices of representation and characterization of the spaces and therefore implicitly of the company. The meeting rooms are always different glass boxes that, with curtain and light systems, can change, darken and open up or become intimate places and enclosed according to need. The archives, usually hidden from view, are staged and become the beating heart of the collective spaces, history, icon and testimony of the work done, while the toilets are transformed into small colored boxes, “public” places par excellence but at the time same intimate and “private”.
